Thoughts from your Executive Council

The Personnel Center at Lackland AFB, TX is trying to preserve your Air Force History - - and you can help!! Over 119,000 photographs taken when we were attending Basic Military Training (BMT) are being sought from all those who went through BMTS at Lackland, Sheppard, or Amarillo AFBs,TX; Sampson AFB, NY; Parks AFB, CA. If you you were trained at any other Air Force Training Base, they want your AF Flight Training Photo included also. They want'em ALL!

This is a project to which each of us who attended USAF Basic Training can contribute!

You can view the photos collected so far by logging on to Lackland's Flight Photo Project website at
http://www.lackland.af.mil./info/flightphoto.asp . LOG ON and search around! I've already submitted mine and so have several other Birkenfelders! (look for Sep, 1955, Flt #308, Parks AFB, CA ) The Photos are organized by decade, year, month, squadron, and Flight. You may be surprised to find your Flight Photo already posted - -over 5,200 photos so far! If it isn't, THEN YOU SHOULD DIG IT OUT, IDENTIFY IT WiTH: AF BASE, MONTH & YEAR, SQUADRON & FLT #, AND SUBMIT IT!! And shame on you if you don't!!

TIP: Most Flight Photo groups were printed on 8"X10" size paper with a wide border. Once 8X10s are scanned they lose sharpness. I suggest you take your photo to a copy shop and have it enlarged to 8.5"X11" with only narrow borders. It improves the photo's distinctness & sharpness greatly! And only cost about $1.00! Then mail it (don't fax) to:
